Cambio Roasters Adds a Dark Roast Decaf to Its Aluminum Keurig Pods

Cambio Roasters has added a dark roast decaf to its line of aluminum Keurig pods, timed to National Coffee Day, according to a company announcement published on BevNET. It went on sale September 29 at CambioRoasters.com and on Amazon.

Per the release, Dark Decaf is organic Arabica decaffeinated with the Swiss Water Process, the solvent-free method that strips out 99.9% of the caffeine. Cambio’s tasting notes list dark chocolate, toasted walnut and caramelized sugar with a little smoke on the finish. Cambio’s own shop lists both of its decafs, this one and the existing medium roast, starting at $11.99.

The pods themselves are the more unusual part. Instead of the usual plastic cup, Cambio packs its coffee in aluminum pods built for Keurig brewers, and the company says they’re infinitely recyclable and keep light and oxygen out better than plastic. The brand was founded by a former Keurig executive, the release notes, and it recently landed in more than 1,400 Publix stores.

Our take: dark decaf is thin on the ground in K-Cup form, so this fills a real gap for evening coffee drinkers who find most decaf pods flat.
