Delish Writer Owns Both a Keurig and a Nespresso, and Picks the K-Crema
Delish writer Megan Schaltegger has owned a Keurig and a Nespresso for years, and when she finally picked a side, the Keurig won. Specifically the K-Crema, which sells for about $220. The piece first ran in August 2025 and is making the rounds again under a new headline.
Her reasoning is mostly about mornings. She uses the Nespresso, a Vertuo Pop+ at about $130 in the article, for lattes and an after-dinner espresso, and the Keurig for a regular mug of coffee. The K-Crema has an “original” mode and a “pressure” mode, and according to the article the pressure mode puts a crema on top that looks a lot like Nespresso’s, even if the coffee isn’t as strong. One machine covering both habits is what settled it for her.
She doesn’t pretend the Keurig makes the better cup. She gives Nespresso the edge on quality and simplicity, since the Vertuo reads a barcode on each pod and picks the brew itself. Keurig’s case is choice and cost: more than 75 brands make K-Cups, Keurig sells a reusable filter, and she puts pods at roughly $0.40 to $1.10 each, against $0.80 to $1.30 for Vertuo pods, which come only from Nespresso.
Our take: the pod math matters more than the $90 gap between the machines. Going by the middle of her ranges, Vertuo pods cost about 30 cents more each, and at two cups a day that’s over $200 a year, and our Keurig cost-per-cup breakdown runs the numbers. If espresso drinks are most of what you make, the cheaper Vertuo is still the simpler buy, and our Vertuo buying guide sorts out the models.
